The velvet pouches of soil discovered by Cassie, Abigail and Joy at the end of last season marks the start of a new Merriwick mystery as the cousins go on a season-long quest to triumph over the biggest threat their magic has ever faced. Along the way, Cassie gets an unexpected visit from her past as she struggles with her identity for the very first time.
Meanwhile, Sam is dealing with an identity crisis of his own, when a shoulder injury prevents him from performing surgery, quite possibly for good. This all leads to Cassie and Sam surprisingly falling out of sync, sending them on a journey to rekindle their romance. All the while, newly engaged Abigail and Donovan realize most of their whirlwind romance has been focused on breaking the Merriwick-Davenport curse. After discovering they don’t know as much about each other as they thought, which includes having very different views on marriage, they decide to explore their relationship in new and exciting ways. Joy returns to Middleton, after wrapping up her gig in Vermont, hoping for a fresh start. She takes Stephanie up on a job offer to remodel The Bistro, where she makes a love connection for the first time in a long time. Stephanie is excited when Adam returns from his mission, until she realizes he’s moved on and she hasn’t. Now they have to find a way to be friends, which presents some interesting challenges, as Stephanie attempts to live life outside her comfort zone. In the meantime, Martha and Tom become grandparents, creating major changes in their lives and prompting tough decisions for both. Finally, we discover George is much more connected to the Merriwicks than anyone thought and could possibly be holding the key to saving the Merriwick magic.
