Episode 5: The Great Cover Up
Episode Outline:
Doing her best James Brown dance moves late one night - Brigitte is espied by her neighbour. Embarrassed, she decides that it's time to put something on those windows.
Reality Check:
As a fat kid growing up in Saskatchewan, it was my dream to become a dancer…and a secretary.
I realize now that I was ahead of my time. Oh sure, that Jennifer Beals got to be an Arc Welding Flashdancer - however, I believe that my dream of becoming a dancing secretary - while not as 'flashy', was still the better story.
Shooting the beginning of this episode meant that I had to dance in front of the living room window. My 'neighbour' (a.k.a. Simon Paine - Audio) walks past and waves to me while I'm thrashing about. This episode brought back all those feelings of frustration I had as a fat kid. I so wanted to be able to do the splits, moonwalk convincingly, and do the Jennifer Beals 'fast run in one spot' thing. I console myself with this knowledge. Jennifer Beals may know how to arc weld - but could she hang blinds, and install a hardwood floor??
I'd like to believe the answer to that is no.
