Episode 23: Camp Gall
I have a couple of very fond memories of going on camping trips with my dad. My dad (an avid fisher) liked to go to the most remote areas to ensure that he would catch the biggest fish and the best stories. Flying in a plane to northern Saskatchewan, or driving with a camper to the Rockies ensured that we would always go to the most amazing places. However, not all of the memories I have are amazing or Rockwellesque in nature.
I can still recall the terror in my six year old heart as the boat we were in almost capsized. I also remember my dad's 'creative' use of language as he set up our huge six man tent in a thunder storm, or the bladder releasing terror I felt the first time I heard a bear snuffling outside our tent.
Over all though, those memories of sitting by an open camp fire, burning marshmallows under a canopy of stars, or sitting in a boat bored out of my head while my dad and my brother fished, or even being stuck in a tent all day while it rained - these are the memories I would never trade in a million years or for the same amount of money.
