Episode 11: In The Gutter

With: Ron James

Episode Outline: Realizing that trees should not be growing out of her gutters, or that having holes in the middle of the gutter defeats the whole purpose of having a downspout - Brigitte sets out to replace the gutters on the garage.

Reality Check: "Hey! I've got an idea" said the olde God of Cruel Intentions to no one in particular.

"Let's have some fun today!" And with that, the God of Cruel Intentions set his Catheryne wheel in motion and Fortuna (the Goddess of just plain Cruelty) spun out on the driveway of 178 Avon Lane. Up in the heavens above, they had a laugh riot!

On paper, it sounded like the easiest project of them all. How hard could it be??! Hang some gutters, have a snack, go to bed.

But no. Here's what we learned.

  1. 1. Gutters should never be hung on a blistering hot day while wearing wool.
  2. 2. Gutters have seams that should be checked before you run water through them
  3. 3. Gutters are fickle beasts, and are impervious to our best intentions.
After joining, hanging, and securing the gutters to the roof line, I turned the hose on. With water gushing down the gutter, cameras rolling, host smiling (one of the tightest, meanest smiles I've ever screwed on to my puss) - it was discovered that one of the seams had not been properly checked. When the water was turned on for the big reveal - we discovered that water - like body fat - is drawn to the lowest point of gravity.

After 14 takes, all the towels in the house, and one very hot, very tired, very cranky, snarky home owner who just wanted to …well, go home… we finally got the shot we needed.

Finally.
