EPISODE 21 - Show Me the Money (Laura)

Laura presented a competent mask to the world but behind it lay an ugly reality: Laura was barely living above the poverty line and was depending on her parents to make ends meet. Laura was working hard at raising funds for charities but her proud façade was crumbling and she was becoming a charity herself. I gave her a plan to put her on the road to financial independence.

Alison's recommendations:

  • Set up a simple filing system and to open, pay and file all her bills
  • Cancel her cell phone. Laura was being billed for long distance and roaming fees every time she used her cell phone and it was adding up.
  • Stop relying on parents. Laura's parents were supplementing her income by $4,000 - $6,000 annually.
  • Find a job paying at least $35,000 a year
