HOST BIO
ALISON GRIFFITHS
Alison Griffiths is an award winning journalist, bestselling author and experienced broadcaster. She brings to Maxed Out a formidable array of skills including investigative research, financial expertise and accomplished writing. The "Portfolio Doctor" column she co-writes in the Toronto Star with her partner and husband, David Cruise, has become one of the most popular in the newspaper as it dispenses financial advice and information with insight and humour. Thousands of readers have turned out over the last three years to attend their House Calls seminar series on investing and money management.
With Cruise, Alison Griffiths has also co-written ten books that cover far ranging topics from history and biography to sport and true crime. Their first work of fiction, Vancouver: A Novel (2003), earned them a coveted Star Review in the U.S. based Publishers Weekly. Griffiths and Cruise have also written documentaries for both television and radio and are frequent guests on a number of programs across the country as financial experts and current affairs commentators. A new feature length documentary by Academy award winning film maker, John Zaritsky, entitled Wild Horse Redemption, is based on Griffiths and Cruise's book about Wild Horse Annie, the woman who saved the mustang from extinction in the 1950s. It airs at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
When it comes to the camera and the mike Alison has hosted numerous programs including The Score, a CBC sports magazine show, Midday (CBC TV), The Canadian Investor (CTV), The Inside Track (CBC Radio) and Morningside (CBC Radio).
Alison Griffiths is hugely insightful, frank yet empathetic. She's a charismatic broadcaster and a powerful consumer advocate. If you're going to take any financial advice, you can take it from her.
