ABOUT THE HOSPITALS
Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre is the amalgamation of three of Canada's finest health care organizations, the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre and Women's College Hospital. It was created by a Special Act of Legislation in June 1998 and is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto.
Sunnybrook & Women's is building on the strengths of its three founding hospitals, each of which has a history of excellence in patient care, education and research. As a leader in women's health it will build on the established credibility of Women's College Hospital by broadening the scope of its women's health focus to encompass all programs and establishing the Women's College Ambulatory Care Centre. The new Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute at Sunnybrook & Women's, will build on the established leadership of the Orthopaedic & Arthritic Hospital in the field of musculoskeletal care and services. Sunnybrook's established reputation as one of Canada's finest academic health centres with expertise in heart and circulation, cancer and trauma adds to the depth and breadth of patient care, programs and services. Sunnybrook & Women's will continue to operate in three locations for the next three to four years to allow for the consolidation of inpatient services at the Sunnybrook campus and the creation of the Women's College Ambulatory Care Centre at the Women's College campus.
Sunnybrook & Women's is considered one of the most renowned Canadian health sciences centres. It is noted for its research, cardiac, trauma and perinatal care, leading-edge cancer treatments and its dedication to academic excellence. As well, the organization is recognized as a leader in high quality patient-focussed care, and our particular commitment to women's health.
