DOCTOR PROFILES

EPISODE 1 & 2

Dr. Allan Covens is a gynecologic oncologist at SWCHSC. He is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto, and head of the gynecologic tumour site group. He is internationally renowned as an expert in fertility preserving surgery, and laparoscopic surgery in the field of gynecologic oncology, having performed the procedures in many countries around the world.

Dr. Grace Liu works out of the Ambulatory Care Centre of Sunnybrook and Women's Health Sciences Centre. She is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist who specializes in minimally invasive surgery and uterine fibroid surgery. <.P>

EPISODE 3 & 4

Dr. Hani Akoury is a staff perinatologist and an Associate Chief of Obstetrics at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. He completed fellowship training in obstetrics and gynecology from Dalhousie University in 1982, a certificate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992, a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Western Ontario in 1994 and a Masters degree in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Toronto in 2002. He has been actively involved with the continuing medical education and with national professional organizations such as the SOGC. His clinical and research interests involve a variety of women's health issues such as fetal surveillance, maternal diseases in pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis and treatment,labour management and critical appraisal.

Dr. Claire Holloway is a surgical oncologist at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre and Co-chair (Surgery) of the Breast Site Group at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre. Dr. Holloway specializes in the surgical management of breast diseases.

EPISODE 5

Dr. Siobhan Ryan is a dermatologist currently working in the Dermatology Day Care and Wound Healing clinic, as well as the Phototherapy Education Research Centre(PERC) of Women's College Ambulatory Care Centre. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Dermatology at the University of Toronto, and is active in the design of educational programs that promote the continuing professional development of dermatologists.

EPISODE 6

Dr. Jean-Philippe Pignol is a Radiation Oncologist at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre and Co-chair (Radiation Oncology) of the Breast Site Group at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre. Dr. Pignol graduated and specialised in France, and also has a PhD in Nuclear Physics. He specializes in the development of innovative technology applied to breast cancer aiming at reducing treatment side effects and burden.

EPISODE 7

Dr. Jon Barrett is the Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Sunnybrook & Women's and an Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Toronto. He is also a Research Scientist at the Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health Research Unit (MIRU) of CRWH. In 2002 he was awarded the Chairs award for "Outstanding Research Potential."

Dr. Barrett directs the Ante Natal Multiples Clinics at Sunnybrook and Women's. He is the chair of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada Working Group on Multiple Births and is a member of the Advisory board for Multiple Births Canada. In 2001 he received this Societies "Making a Difference Award" in recognition of "exceptional dedication and accomplishments" to the community of Multiple Births.

Dr. Mitchell Brown is one of Canada's top plastic surgeons specializing in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and body contouring. In clinical practice since 1995, Dr. Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Ari Zaretsky is Head of the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Clinic at Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre, and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Dr. Zaretsky has a national reputation as a teacher and researcher in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). He completed his research fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He has published on CBT for bipolar disorder and has received peer-reviewed research funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR). Dr. Zaretsky's current research activities focus on CBT for bipolar disorder and CBT for personality disorders.
