Keri Russell (Felicity Porter)
Keri Russell plays the title role in "Felicity," offering a fresh, honest portrayal of new college freshman Felicity Porter. "Felicity makes this one crazy choice in her life, but after she goes through with it, it instigates this whole new outlook in her being. She's away from everyone familiar and for the first time is really seeing things through new eyes...her eyes," Russell said.
Born in Fountain Valley, California, Russell spent her early years in Mesa, Arizona, and later attended high school outside Denver, Colorado. It was in the Rocky Mountain state that Russell discovered her love of dance, and began intense study in ballet, jazz, lyrical and street dancing. She won several scholarships which allowed her to study in prestigious programs, often for as much as seven hours a day.
At 15, Russell was discovered by Disney talent scouts and given an overall deal at the company. Soon after, she auditioned for and won a role in the feature film "Honey, I Blew Up the Kids." Numerous projects followed, namely leads in the television movies "The Babysitter's Seduction" with Stephen Collins, "When Innocence Is Lost" opposite Jill Clayburgh and "The Lottery." Keri was also a series regular on Aaron Spelling's primetime serial drama "Malibu Shores" and on "Daddy's Girls" with Dudley Moore.
A music and dance lover, Russell also enjoys hiking, mountain biking and gardening. She calls Los Angeles home with her cat, Nala.
Scott Speedman (Ben Covington)
Scott Speedman made his American television series debut starring on "Felicity" as Ben, the object of the title character's affection. "Attending college in New York is an escape for Ben," said Speedman. "He has endured lots of pressure from his parents and New York City is the one place he escapes to re-define himself."
Born in London and raised in Toronto, Canada, Speedman spent most of his youth immersed in athletics, following in the footsteps of his mother who held a world record in running. At ages 12 and 14, Speedman was a part of the relay swim team that held the national record for the 400-meter medley. In 1992, as a member of the Canadian Junior National Swim Team, Speedman performed well at the Olympic trials, but suffered a neck injury soon after and was forced to leave the sport.
Speedman discovered his passion for acting when, on a dare, he appeared on "Speakers Corner," an open forum television show in Toronto on which people can speak their minds. He declared his interest in playing the role of Boy Wonder in "Batman Forever" which was casting in Toronto at the time. Within two weeks, Speedman received a call from Warner Bros. to audition and, although he didn't land the part, the casting director was impressed and put him in touch with an agent.
Speedman soon began to gain attention through his work in the short film "Can I Get a Witness," developed at the Norman Jewison Film Center in Toronto, which was screened at the 1996 Toronto International Film Festival. Soon after, he landed the lead role in the independent feature film "Kitchen Party," an off-beat comedy that explores the ironies of life in suburbia, set for a Canadian release in September 1998. Speedman then began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York before landing the role of Ben Covington.
When not working, Speedman enjoys running, hiking, camping, reading, and playing basketball and tennis. He currently divides his time between Los Angeles and Toronto.
Amy Jo Johnson (Julie Emrick)
Best known to audiences for her starring role as the Pink Power Ranger on "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," Amy Jo Johnson is poised to launch a dramatic career as Julie Emrick in "Felicity." "The character of Julie is also on a coming-of-age journey, similar to Felicity's," said Johnson. "She's just beginning to embrace people as she discovers who she really is. And at the same time, she's still very concerned about what others may think of her."
Born and raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this small town girl always wanted to perform. Amy Jo developed a taste for the limelight while competing all over the world as a gymnast until the age of 17. She honed her acting skills in community theater and while studying at New York's American Musical Dramatic Academy after graduating from high school. Two years later, she moved to California.
Her first professional job was a perfect fit since, as one of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," Johnson was able to combine both her athletic and acting talents. After 2 1/2 years on the phenomenal hit series and two major motion pictures, Johnson was ready to stretch her talent in new projects.
She left the series and immersed herself in classes and theater, including a production of "Much Ado About Nothing" at Pasadena's Knight Bridge Theater. Ensuing parts were dramatic, including the television movies "Killing Mr. Griffin", about a group of high school students who kidnap their teacher and "Perfect Body" in which she starred as an anorexic gymnast.
On the big screen, Johnson appears in Robert Towne's "Without Limits," chronicling the life and death of Olympic runner Steve Prefontaine. She also stars as a reluctant vampire in the upcoming independent film "Cold Hearts."
Equally as passionate and determined about music as she is about acting, Johnson also performs as lead singer and guitarist with her band, Valhalla. Additionally, she loves to paint with oil and acrylics and enjoys taking her American Pit Bull "Lucy" to the set with her. She lives in Los Angeles.
Tangi Miller (Elena Tyler)
Newcomer Tangi Miller captivates as Elena Tyler on "Felicity," her television debut in a series regular role. The character of Elena is a no-nonsense freshman student who initially bulldozes over Felicity with her freight-train personality. "Elena is very straightforward and feels that she doesn't owe anyone anything," Miller said. "It takes time for her to trust people and let them in."
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Miller began acting in high school productions but she chose to major in the more practical field of marketing while attending Alabama State University. Realizing that she spent all of her free time acting in theater productions, she decided to seriously pursue acting after graduation.
Intense in her desire to study the craft of acting, Miller earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of California, Irvine and has also studied at the Royal National Theatre in London as well as the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Since then, she has begun to launch a professional acting career which includes starring roles in the independent feature films "Tears of a Clown," which has gained notice on the festival circuit, and "Rhinos." On television, she has guest-starred on HBO's sports comedy "Arliss" and the drama series "Michael Hayes."
Internationally, Miller has danced and performed in West Africa, Cameroon and Ghana. She was also featured in Ghana's television network movie of the week, "Grey Hairs."
In her free time, Miller enjoys practicing yoga, reading poetry and teaching her parrot "Tekay" tricks. Her passions are African/Caribbean dance and international travel. Miller currently resides in Los Angeles.
Scott Foley (Noel Crane)
Already pegged by TV Guide as one of young Hollywood's rising stars, Scott Foley has delivered memorable performances on "Dawson's Creek" and The WB's upcoming midseason comedy from Touchstone Television, "Zoe Bean." Foley is currently co-starring as the resident advisor Noel Crane in "Felicity." "Because he's a sophomore, Noel has a year up on the students he advises," said Foley. "Eventually it becomes apparent that he's very much on the same page emotionally. While he seems to be 'everyman,' he's searching for his voice and identity as well."
Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Foley relocated often during his childhood due to his father's career in international banking, and lived all over the world including Sydney, Australia, and Tokyo, Japan. He attended high school in St. Louis, Missouri, performing in school and community theater productions. Ever determined, Foley never wanted to do anything else but act, so after graduating high school he bought a one-way plane ticket to Los Angeles.
Knowing very little about Los Angeles except that "The Tonight Show" taped in Burbank, he figured that was the place to live. With limited funds he rented a "sleeping room" and worked constantly, first in insurance and later managing restaurants, while taking acting classes and going to auditions.
In the summer of 1997, Scott landed a theatrical agent and his career skyrocketed. Within one month, he flew to Wilmington, North Carolina to guest-star on "Dawson's Creek." It was his portrayal of Cliff, the high school quarterback who successfully challenged Dawson for Jen's romantic interest, that drew the attention of Hollywood. Originally hired for three episodes, Foley appeared in five of the first season's 13 shows.
The Los Angeles-based Foley has a passion for basketball and traveling having lived in Japan. He also enjoys spending time with friends, playing tennis and reading.
