EPISODE 51 - It's a dog's life

Convert It - from Shelf to Wine Rack

Changing an existing shelf into a brand new wine rack is easy and fun.

First, measure the inside dimensions of your existing shelf. Then, using 1 inch by 1 inch pieces of hardwood, such as maple or cherry, cut your stock to the diagonal measurements of your opening, knowing that you will ultimately need to create two grids.

On a table, assemble the pieces in a grid-like pattern and space all the pieces about 4 inches apart. Use 1" finish nails to fasten the pieces together.

Repeat this whole process to build the second grid.

Next, using a nail gun, fasten the first grid to the back of the shelf. Reinforce these grids with frame supports. Then, at an appropriate distance, attach the second grid.

You now have a brand new wine rack to spruce up your kitchen!
