Window Treatments - Upholstering a Valance
Upholstering a window valance for your window is simple. You will need:
- Spray Adhesive
- Batting
- 1/2 inch plywood or MDF
- Fabric
- Staple gun
- Screws
- Screwdriver (power is best)
Directions:
1. Construct the frame of your valance by cutting and screwing together pieces of ½ inch plywood or MDF. The front of the valence should be as deep as you want and be just a little wider than your window. It needs to extend out from the window about 3 - 6 inches.
2. Spray adhesive on batting and staple it to your frame.
3. Add a layer of fabric to the plywood with a staple gun.
4. Fasten a brace above the window to hold the completed valance. The brace should be a piece of wood, screwed into studs in the wall that fits the exact length of the upholstered valance.
5. The valence then squeezes onto the brace and the tension holds it up. You can also add a few screws on each side of the valance, screwed into the brace or the ceiling, to fasten it more securely.
