Playing With Matches
By Amy Cameron
Random House of Canada; www.randomhouse.ca

Canadian journalist Amy Cameron debuts with this collection of dating anecdotes submitted to her by real women everywhere.

Read this if you: 1) Just had a bad date - most of these women have had worse! 2) Are currently in a relationship and need to be reminded why you're incredibly grateful you're not part of the dating scene anymore.

Don't read this if you: Aren't into getting all the juicy details; some of these dates give up all the goods.

The mood you need to be in: You're feeling cynical - but haven't given up entirely.

What you should be snacking on: Sour keys. A bitter girl will empathize with this book best.

Read it while you're: On the subway. These stories are short and sweet; frequent interruptions won't have you bothered in the least.

The best part: The woman who borrowed her mother's coat for a date and pulled her mom's false teeth out of the pocket when she reached for her car keys. He never called her again.

Other books on your nightstand: Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding, Quirkyalone by Sasha Cagen

In a nutshell: All your own cringe-worthy dates suddenly seem funnier.
