Want to be on TV?

The Property Brothers' hit show Buying & Selling is currently casting in the greater Toronto area. We sat down to chat with Gerard Barry, executive producer of Buying & Selling with The Property Brothers, to get the inside scoop on being on the show. Here's everything you need to know to maximize your chances of securing a spot on an episode with stars Jonathan and Drew Scott.

Tell Your Story

The Property Brothers team wants to know as much detail about your story as possible. Your application should cover off the basics, including where you live, why you want to move and where you are in the buying and selling process. What are you looking for and why? Include as much of your personal story as you can.

Insider tip: "The biggest single reason people want to move houses generally is increased family size and better school areas, but it doesn’t matter what your reason is. The team just wants to know that you have a genuine need and interest in moving houses."

Include Lots of Photos

Pictures will help tell your story and give life to it. Be prepared to include photos of your house, inside and out, all rooms, and photos of what you consider to be unsuitable about it. You should also share photos of your whole family and of a friend or family member whom you would bring as a sounding board.

Insider tip: "A short, informal video clip of yourself won’t hurt, but don’t go crazy! If the Property Brothers team likes you on paper, you’ll move on to stage two of the audition process, a Skype call, and following that step, a full audition tape."

"There's nothing stranger or better than the truth, and if you think your story is unique, you may be perfect.”

Know Your Budget

You need to know what your budget is, and have a budget that gives you reasonable options in your area and city. Be honest about money and how far into the process of buying or selling you're into.

Insider tip: “Budget isn't crucial, but honesty is; you have to be willing to make the investment to move. We like all kinds of families and being relatable is crucial. We're not looking for multi-millionaires.”

Be Yourself

The Property Brothers team isn’t looking for professional performers or life of the party types, just genuine people with genuine reasons to move who are comfortable with the filming process. There's no magic golden ticket into being chosen for Buying & Selling, but if you're really yourself, your story will shine through.

Insider tip: “Don’t feel like you have to fit into a mould; we're always trying to find new stories. There's nothing stranger or better than the truth, and if you think your story is unique, you may be perfect.”
