Bold colours on the ceiling? Heck ya!

I love dark, dramatic dining rooms and what could be better than painting the ceiling black!

This dining room had an existing plate rail that we wanted to keep to preserve the character of the home, but we wanted to add some oomph to the space. Along with painting it, we added the ceiling medallion that you install with a construction grade adhesive and paint. (It comes pre-primed and can be purchased at your local building supply store.)

A ceiling medallion is a brilliant way to beef up your light fixture so it doesn't get lost on your dark ceiling.

Using the plate rail as a guide for where to stop the paint, we painted the ceiling and slightly down the wall to meet the top of the rail. By doing this we achieved the bold statement we were looking for on the ceiling, allowing the medallion to pop, and by going down the wall our plates now make an impact too!

We've all heard it before, paint is an inexpensive way to dramatically change the look to any space. Take chances on decorating. And if it's doesn't work out, I always say just paint over it. No big deal! Have fun and add some oomph to your life. This is an easy one to try.

Have fun!

PS: Lots of you have asked what paint I used. It's Behr Black Sable 730F-7D in flat finish.
