Sue's Sex FAQ
Female Health
Sex FAQs provided by Sue Johanson of the Sunday Night Sex Show.
Q. My boyfriend ejaculated in my ear and I tried to rinse it out but now I can't hear. Could this possibly cause permanent damage?
A. Ejaculate is goopy stuff but it is not like earwax. Have a bath in the tub. Lie down perfectly flat and rinse your hair and your ear in the water. You are not going to go deaf or have an infection. Relax and have a nice luxury bubble bath. You will not be hearing impaired. More important, how do you feel about your boyfriend ejaculating in your ear?
Q. My boyfriend was vigorously sucking my breasts last night and he said that he tasted fluid but I have never had kids. What's happening?
A. That is called galacteria. It is a thick, yellow, creamy fluid. If there is a lot of it and it happens without nipple stimulation, I would see a doctor to check it out. If it's just happens occasionally and there is not a lot of it, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not a problem. But if it hurts, do be sure and tell him.
Q. Since my wife had a baby, the fluid in her vagina area has a different taste and smell. Could that be an infection? Our baby is a year old.
A. The normal vaginal discharge should have gotten back to normal by a year after the delivery. Why doesn't she go to the doctor to get it checked out? I am wondering if she has a low-grade yeast infection. That is so easily cured. Once it is diagnosed she can go to the drug store and they will have her pick up a package of Monistat vaginal suppositories, and you will need Monistat cream because you may carry the yeast spores under your foreskin and re-infect her, so the infection just "ping pongs" back and forth.
Q. During sex when she is on top, we sometimes hear a clicking sound when she is on top. What is it?
A. I have no idea what it could be. Is she comfortable? No pain at all? Does it hurt afterwards? There are no bones in her vagina but the pubic bone and you don't penetrate that far. Who is making the clicking sound? You or her? Unless you are having pain then don't worry about it.
Q. We heard sex under water might be bad for the girl. Is this true?
A. It's fun but you lose a lot of power pushing against the water. The vagina is a dead-end street and you may be forcing water under pressure into the vagina. Some of that water may go up and through the cervix and into the uterus. Some researchers believe that this may cause Pelvic Inflammatory disease; others think it might cause endometriosis. If you want to fool around in water, play hide the weenie, oral sex and submarine. But if you wish to enjoy the actual intercourse, stand up and turn the shower on and have sex standing up. Half the fun is getting there.
Q. Can I be allergic to my husband's sperm? Every time we have sex I get an irritable rash for 3-4 days.
A. To find out if you are allergic to your husband's ejaculate, ask him to use a condom. Take an ordinary condom and wash it to get all the lubrication off and pat it with a towel and roll it on his penis. Or, you could go to the drug store and pick up a female condom and you try that one. Female condoms are plastic. You could be allergic to your husband so you have to see if you still get the rash when his ejaculate is contained inside the condom. You may have to find a way to use condoms all the time if that is the case. Actually though, very few women are truly allergic to their partner's ejaculate.
Q. Is it wrong to have sex if the vagina smells? My girlfriend might have a problem.
A. Every female has a distinctive genital odor. No two females smell alike. The odor is an aphrodisiac for your partner. Is it a strong smell like dead fish? If it is, in all possibility she has an infection. It's called trichomonous. It is an amoeba, single cell and you develop a discharge that is yellow/green and bubbly. And it smells really bad. I want her to go to her doctor or Sexual Health Clinic and get a test. Doctors will smell and they know exactly what it is. It is called a "whiff test." Trichomonous is spread by unprotected sex with an infected partner. You probably have it but yours doesn't smell. Treatment easy. They are going to give her six pills and she takes them all right now and they are going to call you in and you will have to take all six pills. You are carrying it and could re-effect her. Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours. Don't have sex until it is cleared and use a condom so you know.
Q. Can a woman who has had a hysterectomy have sex in the water safely?
A. What they've done is taken your cervix and uterus out and hopefully they've left your ovaries in. So your vagina is a dead-end street. The water is going nowhere. It's closed off there. So it is safe provided the sutures along the top of the vagina have healed well.
Q. Are there any hair removal products that are safe to use for pubic and genital hair? My boyfriend likes me to be completely "bare" down there, but I am concerned about the chemicals in depilatories burning my genitals. The idea of waxing for hair removal but the thought of them ripping off my crotch is painful.
A. From what I hear, complete hair removal by waxing, also called a Brazilian Wax is really not all that painful, but you have to have it done every six weeks or less.
Women who shave pubic hair off tell me that you do not get the "prickles," the rash or burning if you shave every day. So, if you shave your pits every day, shave your pubes at the same time….
I would not the hair removal creams anywhere around the mucous membrane of your genitals. Yes, they are chemical and most have a warning about genital hair removal.
I learned that pubic hair has a few specific purposes, one to reduce friction during sexual intercourse, and the other is to trap the unique genital odours that are an aphrodisiac to most men.
I would like to know, does your partner shave his pubic area and around his rectum. If not, why not? If he wants you "clean," I would say you have every right to request that you would like him to do it too. My guess is, he would do it twice and that would be it. Then you are off the hook…(razor).
This male preference for clean-shaven seems to come from guys looking at "bald" women in "skin" magazines and they think that would be fun.
When you have to decide is; it may appeal to him, but does it appeal to you? Then you decide. Remember, if this is going to be a long-term relationship, you are going to be doing this for 35 years. Is that okay with you?
Q. I had a hysterectomy two and a half years ago and since then, my sex drive has gradually declined and this is putting a strain on our marriage. Is there anything I can do to increase my libido?
A. Unfortunately, you did not tell me your age, nor did you tell me if the surgeon was able to leave your ovaries intact when you had the hysterectomy.
If you still have ovaries, they would continue to produce Estrogen and Progesterone even if there was no uterus present. These hormones would keep you in balance and your interest in sex would probably be normal and all would be well.
That is, until you are about 45 years old, when you would probably go into peri-menopause. Then, as your ovaries age, they produce less estrogen and progesterone and you may then notice a decline in sex drive.
Today, because of the health risk involved in hormone replacement therapy (HRT), doctors are reluctant to prescribe estrogen for you.
If your ovaries were removed at the time of surgery, many, if not most, doctors would prescribe low does of hormone replacement therapy for a short period of time, gradually decreasing the dosage until you are off the medication altogether.
A healthy diet and exercise are both very beneficial at this time.
Please know that most women, like most men, have lowered sex drive as they age and sex drive comes and goes. There are times when you are insatiable and others when you just want to forget the whole thing.
But even if you are not "hot to trot," have a romantic evening with your husband. Even if you don't have intercourse, fool around and pleasure him orally or manually. I'd be willing to bet, you get into it, you enjoy it, and then you think… "Whoa, that was great, we should do that more often." He will agree and then follow through on your resolution.
With or without a uterus, you are still a TOTAL WOMAN.
