Sue's Sex FAQ
Circumcisoon
Sex FAQs provided by Sue Johanson of the Sunday Night Sex Show.
Q. My boyfriend is not circumcised. I heard stories that if he doesn't keep his penis clean I can get diseases. Is this true?
A. Mothers usually teach the little boys to pull the foreskin back and clean around the end. Most guys are very careful. There shouldn't be a musty odour; if there is, he could be carrying a yeast infection, or if there are pale grey/white bumps under his foreskin, he might have Venereal Warts and could infect you. Basically, it is much more likely that you will get an infection from trichamonous, gonorrhea or syphilis.
Why don't you have a romantic bath together, and you gently show him how to clean the area. And make sure he uses condoms.
Q. My boyfriend is not circumcised. When we have sex sometimes, he gets little tears in his foreskin. What causes it and how can we prevent it? It looks like chapped lip along the outside.
A. I want him to go to a good family doctor and tell him what is happening. The doctor will freeze the area with local antiseptic so that it is numb further down. He will make a very small incision. It is called a dorsal slit. If there is bleeding he will put a stitch in it and that's it. That opens up so that when he is having intercourse the foreskin pulls back easily and doesn't tear and doesn't pull. I want to check also; at the back of the foreskin there is a band of tissue called a pendulum. That might be tearing too. Get the doctor to check that to and just a snip and we're fine. You can't have that going on and on.
Q. What can I do (non-surgically) to have my foreskin restored?
A. I have heard of a non-surgical way to stretch what is left of your foreskin. A little attachment, like a thimble - a little bigger, is fit over the head of the penis and you put what's left of your foreskin over it. There are little weights on a tensor bandage and it pulls down on the foreskin over the thimble. You can wear pants but when you pee, don't leave it to the last minute. You have to unwrap the thing. Not in a public bathroom. I really don't have the information on where to get the appliance. I am wondering why you would want to restore that? Some guys want to do it because they have the idea that having the foreskin there makes the penis appear larger. It might add to the sensitivity. My concern is the discomfort of wearing this thing. It is worn all day long and is a little uncomfortable. It is not expensive because it is not a medical appliance. Surgical restoration is a major plastic surgery, skin grafting from your leg. It is done in stages and is expensive and there is always the possibility that the graft won't take, more surgery. I am wondering why it is so important for you to have a foreskin?
