What are the symptoms of Acne?

Acne appears most often on the face, but also commonly develops on the chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. The symptoms of acne are various forms of lesions (skin abnormality), which can vary from very mild to severe. You may have more than one form of lesion at the same time. The forms of lesions include:

  • Blackheads. An open blocked pore with a black surface.
  • Whiteheads. A closed blocked pore with a white head.
  • Papules. Pink bumps that may be tender.
  • Pimples. Raised, red bumps often with a pus-filled centre.
  • Cysts. Lumps that develop below the surface of the skin which are usually tender or painful. Abscess. Ruptured cysts.
