Calculate Your BMI
What's Your Body Mass Index (BMI)?
BMI is a ratio of weight to height. Studies of BMI ratios in large groups of people have associated a relatively high or low BMI with greater risk for health and disease.
Most adults with a high BMI carry a high percent body fat (overweight), resulting in increased risk for diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and some cancers. Most adults with low BMIs (underweight) have a low percent body fat, linked to greater risk of osteoporosis, malnutrition and eating disorders.

"For persons 65 years and older the 'normal' range may begin slightly above BMI 18.5 and extend into the 'overweight' range."
"To clarify risk for each individual, other factors such as lifestyle habits, fitness level, and presence or absence of other health risk conditions also need to be considered."
The BMI information on this page is based on data from the Health Canada Website ( www.hc-sc.gc.ca ) and the Canadian Guidelines for Body Weight Classification in Adults.
