Lawrence Chau
Canadian Lawrence Chau (aka Lance) took off to Asia to become an all-round entertainer with successful forays in acting and singing, but his greatest claim to fame lay in the worlds of hosting and showbiz news reporting.
Lawrence left a dynamic dual career in public relations and television in Hong Kong (as host and writer of Citylife) to make an indelible impression in Singapore as presenter, producer and writer of
Showbuzz, the country's flagship entertainment news program.
Lawrence also flexed his producing savvy by continually introducing fresh program segments and cutting edge visual effects into his work. In the spirit of E! Entertainment and
The Insider, Lawrence also championed the crafting of in depth profiles and features into his programs.
With ratings and profits skyrocketing to all-time highs and a track record for scooping competitors like MTV Asia, Lawrence and
Showbuzz were rewarded with first ever Asian Television Award nominations; the television station responded by launching
Showbuzz Weekend, a first-ever spinoff, which Lawrence anchored and supervised.
Throughout his reign on the small screen, Lawrence also surfaced as a veejay for Singapore's innovative interactive music show,
CAN, and made guest appearances on such programs as
The Pyramid Game and
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
Returning to Toronto, Lawrence broadened his portfolio with hosting duties on
Ghostly Encounters (W Network) and acting duties with principal lead roles on the Discovery Channel programs
On The Run (The Elusive Mr Wee) and
Blueprint for Disaster (5 Garley Building).
