At right on the colour wheel is Orange and it exists between the primaries colours red and yellow.

The name “orange” actually comes from the fruit, which was first introduced to Europe in the early 1500’s. Prior to this time, orange was referred to as “red-yellow.”

Burnt orange still lingers in the memories of those who lived through the 1970’s in North America, as it was a very popular colour in interior design. Can you say “shag carpet”? Nowadays, orange in the form of coral and terra cotta are popular as well as Brown, which is derived from orange.

Orange is the only colour to never “feel cool” in a room décor, so it is an excellent choice in a north facing space that feels cool.

In bathrooms or powder rooms orange offers a beautiful warm reflection on skin tone.
