We heard about an inflatable roof rack that’s easy to install to the roof of your car and promises to carry a cargo weight of 80 kilograms (176 pounds). The Handy Rack is $59.95 and comes with a handy pump and storage bag for when you’re not using the rack.

The Handy Rack can be inflated by mouth or with the handy pump; and within 10 minutes we had ours inflated and on the roof ready to go. One issue we had was that there were no straps included to actually secure whatever your load is so we had to rig that up ourselves.

We started out with two pair of skis and once they were on we wanted to take to the highway to see just how secure they were. But after driving at 90 KMPH we were impressed that our skis were safe and sound.

The next test was to try something heavier to see how stable it was, so we strapped on a double kayak that only weighed half the Handy Rack’s capacity load (176 pounds). We certainly didn’t want to move at great speeds or hit a bumpy road. The kayak moved and swayed with every bump we went over and we just didn’t have a lot of faith it would stay on the roof if we went much faster.

We thought that since you still had to purchase the necessary straps and cords to make the rack work, it was a little expensive. Overall, we gave the Handy Rack 3 ½ bags out of 5.
