Remember you are dealing with a surface that will become heated; if you apply too many coats of paint, it will begin to blister, regardless of its plasticity; it does have its limitations. .
  4. To help update the entire look of the fireplace, you may also wish to stain a plain stone mantle. With a concrete mantel use a latex concrete stain. Use long even strokes. Use a foam brush because it applies stain evenly. Follow the instructions and suggested drying times before using your fireplace. Decorate as you wish!
