How to host the perfect theme party from Kim's Rude Awakenings
Over the past ten years I have thrown hundreds of parties and I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing event planners, creative directors, decor people and mixologists. A party is a party but taking that extra step and creating a theme for your party makes it much more memorable and fun for you and your guests.
In my business I am always working with a great team to develop new ideas and new themes. NO IDEA IS A BAD IDEA. You just have to let your creative juices flow!
1. Brainstorm
Picking a theme for your party is the most enjoyable part of party planning. What do you want people to remember? What do you want people to think when they walk into your party? Write down your ideas on a piece of paper so you can visualize how your theme is going to work. Take time, energy, and effort to decide on a theme and BE CREATIVE!
2. Do Your Homework
Once you pick a theme do some research online. You want to bring interesting elements into your party that people will enjoy. Don't make it cheesy - unless you have a cheesy theme that is, in which case cheesy elements will work. I am currently working on Madonna's new CD release party. We've hired 10 drag queens to be ten different Madonnas. They will welcome the guests and during the evening we will have 10 different Madonna drag shows.
3. Invitations
Your invitations say it all. Don't make them too busy. You want to make sure that the theme is clearly stated and you want to tell your guests if they have to dress accordingly. You don't want to have a pink party and forget to tell people to wear pink!
4. Signature Cocktail
When people arrive it is nice to start off with a cocktail to match the theme. I was just in Vegas and I attended a sexy red party where everyone was given a pomegranate champagne cocktail upon arrival. Pomegranate liquor and champagne, what a sexy start to the night!
5. Dress To Impress
Telling guests to dress a certain way is fun for everyone. It makes the room sexy and people get excited when they have to wear something to match a theme. Just be sure that the instructions are on the invitation!
6. Decor
You don't have to spend a mad amount of money on decor. Lighting, music and candles are fine. But remember, after the invitation, this is the first impression your guests will have of your party. Make sure there is a flow to your theme and that the room matches your ideas!
7. Theme Suggestions
Hot right now are Color Parties (White Party, Pink Party), Entertainer Parties (Madonna Party) and City Parties (New York, New York). Think outside the box, be creative and always, HAVE FUN!
