1. Using Faux-Velvet Bows Inside the House. These are meant to be used outside.
2. Christmas Trees Put Up Incorrectly. Take the time to check that it is up straight.
3. Tree Tinsel. Use sparingly.
4. Plastic Trees. Avoid as much as possible but if you must use one (due to allergies, etc.) get one of the newer more "realistic" trees - they are more expensive but the look is worth it!
5. Christmas Cards Displayed on the Tree. Christmas cards do not belong on the tree - they should be displayed separately as a collection on their own, if they're going to be displayed at all.
6. Plastic Christmas Tablecloths. If you are worried about food and beverage staining, get a blended fabric tablecloth that can be easily washed; alternatively a linen or cotton cloth and/or runner with a pattern can hide minor stains; if your gathering includes small children, plastic can be fine for a children's table, separate from the adults area.
7. Plastic Poinsettias. Greenery should always be fresh and real.
8. Faux Snow. Let's leave the snow outside.
9. Tinsel Garland Arched Over Every Door Opening. Do not use tinsel garland in arch ways.
10. Bad Tree Skirts. Plastic tree skirts just draw attention to something you are trying to hide, a simple rich coloured velvet skirt is much less obtrusive and more attractive; if your concern is water damage from your tree's base, simply put a large sheet of plastic underneath a more attractive skirt.
