Eyeshadow Colour
Q: Can you just apply one eyeshadow colour?
Full Question
Can you just apply one eyeshadow colour? I don’t always want to bother
with highlighting or contouring, but would just like to put on
something “fun.” What are some good colour choices?
Answer
Of course, you can apply only one eyeshadow colour! The great thing about make-up is that you have an endless amount of options so you can wear one eyeshadow colour or more. The choice is yours!
For a single shade look, opt for a colour that will add contrast to your eyes and really make them pop:
- Green eyes – light purples, plums and golden brown
- Blue eyes – shimmery bronze, peach, warm browns
- Grey – purple, cool brown
- Brown eyes - Brown-eyed beauties have the most versatile eye colour. Shades of hunter green, deep plum, light pink, and even aqua will look great. Just make sure whatever colour you choose, it’s audience appropriate (i.e. aqua may not go over too well at the workplace, depending on where you work!)
Along with your eye colour, another important factor to consider when choosing an eyeshadow is your skin tone. If your skin tone is more fair, avoid colours that are red-based (as they can highlight any redness in the skin) and colours that are too dark (as they can be overpowering). Vice versa if your skin tone is darker, avoid shades that are too light and too frosty in texture. We want people to notice you complemented by the eyeshadow and not your eyeshadow from across the room!
No matter how many shades of eyeshadow you choose to apply, remember the key to a professional finish is always to blend. Use a quality brush to deposit the bulk of the eyeshadow atop the eyelid, then blend it upwards so it lightly diffuses just past the crease and atop the browbone. Finish the look off with eyeliner and mascara…and you’ll be all set to go!
More tips:
Use your coloured eyeshadow wet for an easy, but more intense look. Dip an angled brush in water and use with your coloured eyeshadow to create any colour of eyeliner your heart desires!
