How much coffee is too much coffee?
Q: How much coffee is too much coffee?
Full Question
I love coffee and I drink a few cups a day. How much coffee is too much coffee and what are the health risks?
Answer
Coffee contains caffeine which is a stimulant. Every time you drink it you are stimulating your adrenal glands to produce stress hormones. These in turn will release sugar into your blood stream. Overtime this depletes the adrenal glands of their reserves and upsets blood sugar control leading to increased dependency on coffee, sugar and other stimulants. It is depleting to the body of vital minerals and vitamins especially the B vitamins. Coffee drinking is also associated with heart palpitations, anxiety, insomnia and PMS.
Ideally switch to coffee substitutes such as dandelion coffee or those made from barley or chicory. These are naturally caffeine free so won’t lead to addiction or give you the highs and lows of regular coffee.
Please note, when you do give up coffee you are likely to experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, irritability and fatigue. These will only last a few days, after which you will be free of your addiction.
