Ceiling Caving In
Q: Is there a relatively easy way to stop this?
Full Question
We recently moved into an older house with the intent to renovate. Nearly everything seems like a quick fix except that the ceiling is starting to cave in. We were thinking about using wood on the ceiling, but I imagine this would only delay the problem. Is there a relatively easy way to stop this?
Answer
You need to make sure that this is not a structural problem (if it is you need to deal with this right away). Most likely the caving in is just old plaster that has seen better days. A quick fix would be to install some kind of wall paneling Check out walldesign.ca. (I have used the Melia product a few times on SUFOH this season). It is important to make sure you use a construction adhesive and to use some finishing screws that are long enough to reach the wood behind the plaster. This will be sure to hold everything up.
