From the first day that woman stepped out of the cave wearing a mammoth fur miniskirt man has been there to signal his approval with grunts, whistles or an appreciative puddle of drool. But have today’s fashions for women simply gone too far and revealed too much? Only 100 or so years ago a woman’s exposed ankle would have been an erogenous zone for gents unaccustomed to the daily sight of female flesh. Today, there are very few areas left on the modern woman that haven’t been showcased with provocative attire. Do guys still find today’s femme fashions sexy? Or do we long for a bit of old-fashioned mystery? I talked to a couple of guys who were more than happy to weigh in on the sexy things women wear.
It seems that, while we may like to think of ourselves as more evolved than our grunting, cave-dwelling ancestors, we haven’t really come that far. Guys like tighter clothes on women that accentuate curves and show more skin. Andrew (not his real name), a 32-year-old creative professional that recently moved in with his girlfriend of over a year, puts it this way: “When guys see women dressed provocatively, it’s licence to imagine them in a much more sexual way.”
When asked what clothes women wear that he and his friends might consider sexy, Andrew easily puts hip hugger jeans on the list. The low cut jean is apparently ideal, not just for accentuating a woman’s hips and behind, but also for showing off the stomach.
Steve (also not his real name), who’s single and in his early 30s, agrees and considers the low-rider jeans “the best things ever,” especially in conjunction with another top-rated fashion item: the thong. Both Andrew and Steve agree the thong, as maligned as it is by many women as uncomfortable and oppressive, is a winner in the sexy arena. Without going into graphic detail, Steve sums up its appeal simply by saying, “It’s the mental picture, and the promise of more.”
Both guys agree that revealing clothing doesn’t necessarily have to be the exclusive domain of women in perfect shape. Curves are good, and a midriff-baring top is equally impressive on a woman who might not have that almost-impossible-to-achieve flat stomach. Sexy is also dictated by the individual woman and how comfortable and confident she feels in her own body. Simple clothing was also a big hit with my interviewees – a crop-top t-shirt and jeans being considered as sexy as the popular leg boots and miniskirt combo.
So what should you wear if you’re out to catch the eye of a guy you like? First, wear what makes you feel comfortable and secure. Guys can pick up when you’re not feeling relaxed in the clothes you’ve got on. Tighter seems to get way more votes than looser-fitting clothes, but again, dress to your comfort level and style.
Remember that sexiness is in the eye of the beholder. What sends one guy panting might repulse another. So make sure you’re wearing what you love, and what makes YOU feel sexy, not necessarily what you think someone else might like. When you’re exuding that kind of confidence, whether it’s in a hip-hugging pair of jeans or a simple summer dress, guys can’t help but turn their heads and take notice.
